We thank the Lord for giving the Philippine Bible Society (PBS) an opportunity to take part in two Scripture translation–related events!
From September 8 to 19, PBS Publishing Manager Pastor Marfeal Santiago and Filipino Sign Language Bible Translation Project Coordinator Mr. Jojo Mahinan flew to Siem Reap, Cambodia to attend a United Bible Societies (UBS) Asia-Pacific Region Translation Officers’ Training. UBS Global Translation Consultant Dr. Edgar Ebojo, who concurrently serves as PBS Translation Consultant, headed the facilitation of the training.
During those two weeks, Translation Officers from different Bible Societies in the Asia Pacific region completed the modules under “Quality Assurance in Bible Translation.” The first week was spent discussing Quality Assurance (QA) in Translation Checking, and the second week focused on ensuring QA by enhancing their knowledge of biblical languages.
A week later, from September 25 to 27, PBS organized a Consolidated Translation Checking with all five of its current Bicol Region New Testament translation teams: Bikol Miraya, Bikol Northern Catanduanes, Northern Sorsoganon, Bikol Libon, and Bikol West Albay.
Dr. Edgar Ebojo, Ptr. Alvin Bailon, Ptr. Marfeal Santiago, and Mr. Jojo Mahinan were present during the event. Each Translation Consultant and Translation Officer went over their respective team’s work. The gathering also served as a good mentoring opportunity between the PBS Translation Consultants and the Translation Officers-in-Training.
Through these events and training sessions, PBS continues to work hand-in-hand with the United Bible Societies by strengthening local and international translation training. We pray that more people will be raised by the Lord in the coming years to faithfully serve him in the work of making the Bible known!
