Leading with a Healed Heart

Church leaders at various levels—bishops, heads of organizations, pastors, ministry leaders, and church workers—attended a Group Healing Session under the Trauma Healing Program of the Philippine Bible Society on March 18-20 at Oro Baptist Church in Cagayan de Oro.

The session included activities designed to help participants embrace forgiveness and experience the freedom that comes with it. One powerful illustration used was the “rope skit,” where two people were tied back to back, symbolizing the burden of holding onto unforgiveness and the struggle of not letting go of those who have caused them pain.

Ptra. Besavilla C. Morales, a participant from Church of Christ Bring’s Revival, shared the importance of letting go and forgiving: “We must forgive others as God forgives us [because] joy comes when guilt is removed.”

This training prepared them to facilitate healing within their small groups and church communities, guiding others through their own pain and wounds of the heart.

Ptra. Besavilla also reflected on how the session impacted her ministry: “[What I learned is] very useful in ministry. [It has helped me grow in] humility, love, and patience. [I have also gained a deeper] understanding [of others and a greater willingness to be] generous—both financially and in offering moral support.”

This experience highlights that when leaders find healing, they are better equipped to serve others—helping them heal, find hope, and experience true freedom.
