The Philippine Bible Society (PBS) handed out copies of a special edition New Testament Bible to officers of the Philippine National Police (PNP) at the Gate 4 Evangelical Worship Center, Camp BGen Rafael T. Crame, Quezon City on September 18, 2024.

The PNP received 48,000 copies of the Bible, marking the start of an initiative to distribute a Bible to approximately 220,000 police officers across the country.

Police Brigadier General Florendo S. Gerdan, Jr., Director of the Engineering Service, shared the significance of this effort: “While the Bible itself is not a formal guide for law enforcement, the principles it promotes—such as justice, fairness, and respect for human dignity—align with the ethical standards expected of police officers. For those who view their profession as a vocation, these principles can reinforce their commitment to upholding the law with integrity.”

Police Major Fulgencio M. Cañon, Jr., Chief of the Evangelical Base, also emphasized the importance of the Scriptures: “The Philippine National Police adheres to the core values of being God-fearing, pro-people, pro-environment, and pro-country (Maka-Diyos, Makatao, Makakalikasan, at Makabansa). I believe that the Holy Scriptures are essential for the moral and spiritual transformation of PNP personnel and their families.”

Ms. Perry Cartera, PBS general secretary, said that this distribution is just the beginning of a wider effort to reach and transform lives across the police force. By God’s grace, PBS in partnership with the PNP, will be able to reach every officer with a personal copy of the Bible in the next five years.

As PBS continues its mission of translating, producing, distributing, and promoting the Holy Scriptures, our dedication is to make God’s Word accessible to all Filipinos. Our vision is for the Bible to serve as the guide for all, transforming lives and fostering national righteousness, social peace, public justice, and God-fearing citizenship.

Through God’s provision and strong partnerships, PBS is actively working to touch and transform lives through His Word. You can join us in this mission of reaching more hearts in need of hope and guidance.
