PBS School MSRs

Children often spend their formative years in school, learning life lessons and picking up practical knowledge and skills. Young as they are, these students will benefit from understanding how their lives are connected with the rest of God’s creation.

On September 5, several members of the Philippine Bible Society (PBS) staff conducted a Creation Care Outreach Activity at Pagkakaisa Elementary School in Biñan, Laguna. Around 300 students were present at the school’s covered court, with guest speakers Mr. Michael Cailing Salas and Pastor Noli Mendoza giving their respective talks about biodiversity and our role in biblical creation care.

As an icebreaker, the students were taught a creation care song called, “Ang Ating Kapaligiran,” composed by Ms. Dulce Balosbalos for the United Methodist Church’s 2012 Vacation Church School. PBS staff also distributed copies of the Pinoy Version New Testament and the Karunungan for Life booklet, and gave out a simple dish for the students to enjoy.

A few days after, on September 11, other members of the PBS staff visited Baclaran National High School in Parañaque, where they met with some of the school’s Grade 10 students. Guest speakers Dr. Carmela Española and Pastor Noli Mendoza, again delivered talks on the biodiversity of the Philippines and humanity’s role in biblical creation care. Afterwards, the students also received their own copies of the Pinoy Version New Testament and the Karunungan for Life booklet.

The latter Creation Care Outreach Activity was organized in partnership with Child Evangelism Fellowship NCR South – Parañaque, and it coincided with the school’s participation in the National Science, Technology, and Innovation Week. Mr. Nestor Torrecampo, the school principal, also expressed a willingness to invite PBS back for a second outreach activity, this time with Grade 7 students.

The Philippines has been blessed with much natural beauty and biodiversity, and this blessing is something that we need to preserve and protect. We pray that these Creation Care Outreach Activities, as well as the next ones, will encourage more and more Filipinos to care for God’s creation in accordance with God’s Word!
