When a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck parts of Mindanao on June 8, 2026, thousands of families were left grieving, displaced, and uncertain about the days ahead. In response, the Philippine Bible Society (PBS), through the generosity of donors from the United Bible Societies Fellowship and the dedicated efforts of the PBS Regional Auxiliary Bible Office (RABO) in Davao, conducted a relief and Scripture distribution operation for affected communities.
From June 16 to 17, 2026, PBS reached 600 families across four earthquake-hit communities:
📍June 16
Malapatan, Sarangani – 150 families
Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental – 100 families
📍June 17
Poblacion, T’boli, South Cotabato – 150 families
Lagao District, General Santos City – 200 families
Each family received a relief pack containing essential items such as rice, canned goods, biscuits, drinking water, basic medicines, and a copy of the Bible. Beyond meeting immediate physical needs, the relief operation sought to bring comfort and hope through God’s Word, reminding affected families that the Lord remains their refuge even in times of disaster.
Anchored on Psalm 46:1–3, the outreach encouraged recipients to place their trust in God amid uncertainty:
“God is our shelter and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not be afraid, even if the earth is shaken…“
As recovery operations continue in the affected areas of Mindanao, let us keep the affected families in our prayers. May God provide for their needs, strengthen their faith, and remind them that He is their refuge and strength in every season.
