MAKING THE BIBLE KNOWN

On October 13, Philippine Bible Society chaplain and Bible Relevance in Modern Times Seminar lecturer Pastor Noli Mendoza held a talk titled, The Leader’s Heart and the Scales of Justice: Leadership Lessons From Proverbs.

Using verses from the book of Proverbs, Pastor Noli showed how good leaders live with a fear of God, speak with authority and truth, and carry out justice for all—especially for the poor and the oppressed. He also spoke about the fact that leaders receive their authority from God, so they have a very real responsibility to live out his righteousness in everything they do.

One of the attendees, Mr. Rodolfo Magcaling Jr., shared his takeaways from the seminar with regards to leadership:

“Minsan, porke’t napamahal na tayo sa tao ay mas mabigat na rin yung tingin natin sa [kanya,]” he explained. “Mahirap nang sabihin sa kanyang mali na yung ginagawa niya. Kaya wag natin [gawing basehan yung naiisip lang natin], kundi lagi yung nasa Bible. Kasi kung magba-base tayo sa Bible, maitatama natin yung bagay na ipinupunto ng puso natin—na ‘wag nating sang-ayunan yung kamalian na ginagawa ng isang member.”

He also spoke about what he learned in relation to his role in his church’s media ministry, especially in teaching the younger generation:

“Palagi kong tinatanong sa mas mataas sa’kin, ‘Tama po ba ‘to?’ Yun ang number one—makikinig, magpapaturo…” he said. “Kasi sa mga bata sinasabi ko, ‘Adjust mo nang konti.’ Oo, maganda na [siya] sa paningin mo, pero [may ikakaganda pa yan]. Wag lang yung salitang, ‘Sapat na ‘to.’ Bigay mo yung best mo.”
