Young people unite to pray for the Bible cause worldwide

Who says young people can’t make a difference?

Over a hundred of young people from different churches and organizations, together with the members and staff of the Philippine Bible Society (PBS), gathered for the World Day of Prayer last May 9. This prayer gathering dubbed “Youth Empowered” was organized in line with the anniversary of the United Bible Societies, the global fellowship of Bible Societies in 147 countries worldwide. It provided an avenue for united and concerted intercession for the advancement of the global Bible work.

A program was also prepared to creatively present the ministry of UBS. This included a dramatization of the story of Mary Jones, a Welsh girl who saved up for six years and walked over 20 miles to get a Bible of her own. This is just one of the many testimonies that inspired the founding of Bible Societies worldwide in order to provide affordable and accessible Bibles to everyone.

Guest speaker Rei Lemuel Crizaldo, author of the books Boring Ba Ang Bible Mo? and Connected Ka Ba?, encouraged the participants to better engage with God’s Word by giving helpful reading strategies. He cited the use of multiple Bible versions, Bible study tools, Bible comics, and mobile applications. He also urged the young people to take advantage of latest Bible translations like the Pinoy Version, an ongoing project of PBS that uses Taglish. He explained that a translation like this which uses modern-day language may lead to deeper appreciation and study of the Word.

The participants were also invited to take part in the work of spreading God’s Word. In a Bible Giving Challenge, each of them was given a pair of New Testament. They were encouraged to give at least one copy to someone they want to reach out to and pray for. The program ended with a tour of the PBS Bible Museum for everyone who came.

Praise God for these young people ready to become Bible ambassadors and prayer warriors for the Bible cause!
