Waray Translation Work Underway
Work for the revision of the 1984 Samarenyo Popular Version New Testament (hereinafter, Western Waray New Testament) and the Northern and Eastern Waray translation of the Gospel of Mark have begun last October 1, 2014.
According to Translation Projects Assistant Jojee Martinez, the teams were formed after the translation workshop held in Tacloban City last August. The translation teams are composed of Joan Cyril Abello, Ulpiano Cabael, Rafael Canqu for Western Waray, Gideon Aliposa and Rhodora Bande for Northern Waray, and, Rennie Gesite and Iris Terana for Eastern Waray.
Meanwhile, she shared that the work on other translation projects continue to prosper despite the daily challenges. “By God’s grace, we will have completed translation work for the Tagalog Devotional Study Bible by year end, the Revised Magandang Balita Biblia Old Testament and Pinoy Version New Testament by the end of next year, the Ilocano Full Life Study Bible by 2016, and the Filipino Standard Version Old Testament by 2018,” she shared.
There are presently about 50 translators and reviewers working on the said projects. They are ably supervised by Translation Consultants Dr. Daniel C. Arichea, Dr. Anicia H. del Corro, Dr. Rhoneil M. Arevalo, and Dr. Edgar B. Ebojo in ensuring the accuracy and faithfulness of the translation to the original text.
