From June 25 to 27, 2024, the Asia Pacific Publishers’ Institute Workshop took place at the Philippine Bible Society (PBS) Tower in Manila. The three-day event gathered general secretaries, managers, and supervisors, from various Bible societies across the Asia Pacific region. The workshop aimed to explore the role of publishing in the Integrated Bible Ministry Process, focusing on improving efficiency, embracing innovation, and promoting collaboration to advance the Bible ministry. During the event, participants also had the opportunity to view a special display of different Scripture materials from various Bible Societies, giving a glimpse into the diversity of Bible publishing efforts in the region.
The workshop started off with a warm welcome and a morning devotion from Ms. Victoria Esperanza “Perry” Catera, General Secretary of the Philippine Bible Society. She emphasized the power of God’s Word, taking inspiration from Isaiah 55:10-11.
Mr. Barine Kirimi from the United Bible Societies Global Mission Team (UBS GMT) then led an insightful session on the “Integrated Bible Ministry Process,” exploring how Bible societies can align people, processes, and technologies to enhance efficiency and resilience. He stressed the importance of a unified mission and shared goals to ensure sustainable Bible ministry. The session covered key elements such as research, planning, content development, and community building.
Mr. Arun Sok Nhep, also from UBS GMT, went through the core activities like translation, publishing, and distribution, highlighting the significance of a clear vision and quality standards in the Bible ministry life cycle. The participants engaged in group discussions to explore how these integrated processes can be adapted to their respective Bible societies.
A presentation on artificial intelligence’s (AI) potential in publishing and media, including tools like ChatGPT and Midjourney, was also mentioned and sparked discussions on balancing technology with human creativity. The day concluded with feedback sessions, allowing participants to reflect on integrating new technologies and strategies into their Bible societies.
The day began with a Bible enthronement, featuring translations from across Asia-Pacific, followed by a brief devotion led by Rev. Shou-Hui Chung, General Secretary of the Bible Society in Taiwan.
The session started with Mr. Arun sharing the importance of changing mindsets to drive impactful changes in Bible ministry, addressing challenges in publishing, distribution, and engagement. He also used as an illustration the “Three Box Solution” of Dr. Vijay Govindarajan, an expert on strategy and innovation, to encourage the participants to manage the present, selectively forget the past, and strategize for the future. Discussions centered on key aspects of Bible publishing: language diversity, digital innovation, affordability of Bible production, and enhancing scripture engagement through strategic partnerships.
Meanwhile, Mr. Barine highlighted the growing opportunities in digital platforms, audiovisual content, and social media for Bible distribution. Delegates actively participated in group discussions, exploring regional challenges and opportunities, emphasizing collaboration for a more impactful ministry.
As the workshop progressed, the delegates remained focused on learning and sharing their experiences from their respective Bible societies across Asia-Pacific. They are united in the mission to make God’s Word accessible and transformative.
The final day began with a devotion led by Rev. Priyantha Wijegoonawardena, the General Secretary of the Ceylon Bible Society, focusing on the importance of seeking the Lord in prayer and fasting during challenging times. Also, he called for a community prayer for the Bible societies facing restrictions and challenges, emphasizing unity and support.
Mr. Barine discussed the importance of unity in Bible ministry, highlighting resource pooling, collaborative projects, and effective communication. He shared successful collaboration examples, like the African Women Devotional Bible, inspiring participants to consider similar initiatives in Asia.
Additionally, discussions centered on how societies can collaborate and support each other. The UBS Publishers’ Institute Tool Kit was introduced, offering resources and an online learning platform to aid Bible publishing.
Mr. Arun concluded the workshop with a session on trends in Bible publishing in the 21st century, stressing the balance between print and digital formats. He discussed the importance of sustainability in publishing and distribution, sharing strategies for pricing and quality management.
Participants then assessed their Bible societies’ current status, shared ongoing and future projects, and reflected on their plans. The workshop closed with a collective call to action, encouraging societies to implement the insights and strategies gained over the three days.

Thank you!
A blessed evening to everyone, I’ve been looking for a website where I can be able to ask for free physical bibles (visayan version) for our GSK (Gagmayng Simbahanong Katilimban) formerly known as BEC (Basic Ecclesial Community) group here in Iligan City. We’ve been consistently doing religious activities for the past 2 years and we only have 1 bible that are being passed from 1 house to another. We are looking forward if we can be able to request at least 12 pieces of bible for 12 families as well so that we can teach each and everyone to read the bible.
I hope you can help me with this request.
Thank you so much and God bless us all!
