The Road to the Boînën October Launch

August 15, 2018

The Philippine Bible Society (PBS) rejoices for it is about to launch another translation, bringing the ministry ever closer to making the Bible known to all Filipinos.

The Boînën language is spoken by over 77,000 people. It is one of the many variants of the Bicol language that is being used in the Bicol province, specifically in the lake town Buhi. The population is predominantly Roman Catholic and these people already have access to an existing Bicolano Bible. However, the language base happens to be more inclined towards the Naga variety, which is why the people needed a translation that was easier to understand and closer to their heart language.

It was the Buhi community and church leadership that made an explicit request for this translation project. The Boînën translation will be launched in Bicol on October 6, 2018. Project manager Emelia Ballenas has been working hard with the translation team to meet deadlines and ensure quality output. The final Boînën checking was done last April 16-20, 2018.

The road to the launch began during the latter part of 2016 when the checking of the Boînën began. But if you look deeper at the history of this translation project, you’ll see that it traces its origins to earlier years such as 2008 and 2000. A memorandum of agreement was signed in 2008 between the Translators Association of the Philippines (TAP) and PBS. Both agreed that TAP would provide the initial drafts and the initial translation checking. On the other end, PBS would provide the final consultant checking. Though the MOA was signed in 2008, TAP had actually already started the research and conducting of language conferences in the year 2000.

May God continue to bless both organizations in the endeavor of advancing the Bible cause in the Philippines. Let us also pray for the Boînën launch this October. May the Lord grant the team involved strength, wisdom, and guidance.

Prayer for Boînën NT Translation

The inauguration of the New Testament in Boînën have been postponed twice already. Pray for God’s will regarding the anticipated inauguration this year. Ask the blessings of the Lord regarding the other aspects which have yet to be cleared such as the typesetting, and the challenges in printing. May the Lord bless a date earlier than October 15 for a God-honoring event.

Buhi Community receives Boînën New Testament

November 19, 2018

The Philippine Bible Society (PBS) officially launched the Boînën New Testament last October 6, 2018 at Buhi North Central School in Buhi, Camarines Sur. The Orthography writers of the Boînën language also attended the event.

The Boînën New Testament was a collaboration between the Translators Association of the Philippines (TAP) and PBS. It was the Buhi community and its church leadership that made an explicit request for this translation project.

After its final checking in April this year, it was finally ready to go into production. Many months later, PBS found itself in Camarines Sur, a province located in the Bicol Region of Luzon, for the Boînën New Testament launch and dedication.

The peaceful town of Buhi, which is recognized for Lake Buhi’s crystal waters, is home to over 77,000 warm and friendly people. We thank the Lord for the success of this recent Bible launch and for providing this community their very own Boînën New Testament.

“It is a blessing to be able to support our local churches in need of Bibles and Bible study programs. It is our hope that they not only grow in terms of membership but also have the heart to extend spiritual help to others, just like how they have received help.”

“I praise and thank our Almighty God that, through PBS, I now own a Poimen version of MBB (Magandang Balita Biblia) in the national language of the Philippines – Tagalog.
Knowing Matthew 10:32-33, I read and study the Bible so that I will not be dismayed when the Lord Jesus Christ comes. Life is too short compared with the promise of eternal life in God’s Kingdom.”

I think this is very helpful to every readers. The word of the Lord are the food of our soul which we always need every minute of our life. I dont often read the Bible but everytime i open it, God was always like in front of me and speaking as what is something i'm just needing to hear. He speaks to me and i can feel it. A million thanks to You my Lord.
