The Journey Continues: A Reviewer’s Workshop for the Pinoy Psalms and Proverbs

March 6, 2019
The Philippine Bible Society conducted the Pinoy OT: Psalms and Proverbs – Reviewer’s Workshop last February 7-8, 2019 (Thursday and Friday) at the PBS Ministry Center in UN Avenue, Manila from 8:00am to 5:00pm on both days. It was attended by 20 eager and energetic participants with ages that ranged from 18 to 35 years old.
This group of workshop attendees was composed of youth pastors and associate pastors referred and recommended by Ms. Lissa Belle Brown of the National Council of Churches in the Philippines (NCCP). There were also professors from the academe and past participants of the Pinoy OT – Translators Workshop last February 2018. The Pinoy OT translation team also sent invites to members of the Episcopal Commission of Youth (ECY).
Pinoy Translation Milestones:
- 2007 – PBS started the Pinoy Version translation project
- 2018 – PBS launched the New Testament: Pinoy Version at the 39th Manila International Book Fair
- 2019 – PBS is currently working on the Pinoy Version: Psalms and Proverbs
A Reviewer’s Workshop is vital to any translation project because it serves as an opportunity to train and select that said project’s external reviewers. This particular workshop will help reassure the quality of the Pinoy Version translation project. It will also equip the reviewers to see if the language being used is appropriate and applicable for the Pinoy translation’s intended audience.
We encourage you to join us in prayer for the timely release of the Pinoy Version: Psalms and Proverbs. Its current target completion date is any time next year in 2020. Please pray for the translators as they strive to remain faithful to the original biblical language used in the Old Testament. May they be guided by the Holy Spirit in completing this translation project, so that many hearts will be touched and transformed by God’s Word.
