Seek Heavenly Wisdom: Read the Book of Proverbs in 31 Days
“Here are proverbs that will help you recognize wisdom and good advice, and understand sayings with deep meaning. `They can teach you how to live intelligently and how to be honest, just, and fair. They can make an inexperienced person clever and teach young people how to be resourceful. These proverbs can even add to the knowledge of the wise and give guidance to the educated, so that they can understand the hidden meanings of proverbs and the problems that the wise raise.”
Proverbs 1:2-6, Good News Translation (GNT)
The latest report tells us that there are over 4 billion internet users worldwide. We live in such a hyper-connected world. The idea of escaping or unplugging from the virtual space now seems like a radical thing to do! Since when did the soundtrack of our lives begin to consist of the buzzing of smartphones and the chirping of fully loaded email inboxes?
We cannot deny this reality: our society puts a premium on modernization, optimization, and customization. And with so many choices being presented to us on a daily basis, how does one stay afloat? Keep calm and collected? Be wise and discerning?
In an era of decision fatigue, the Bible is precisely what we need.
One of the most beautiful things about the Bible is its timeliness and relevance. This is another reason why we find comfort in God’s Word. The truths and teachings it contains are constant and unchanging. They apply up to this very day!
A good place to acquire heavenly wisdom for one’s daily life is in the book of Proverbs. This Old Testament book is part of the Bible’s Wisdom Literature, along with others like Job and Ecclesiastes. It has 31 chapters filled with observations, warnings, reminders, and instructions on how to pursue a life ultimately pleasing to the Lord.
