Nearly 500 Naga City Pastors, Teachers Attend Bible Training
Close to 500 pastors, priests, church workers, Sunday school teachers, and catechists participated in the Bible Relevance in Modern Times Seminars held last November 23 to 24, 2014 in Naga City.
The two-day event was part of the double celebration of the 115th anniversary of the Philippine Bible Society and the centenary of the translation of the Bicol Bible.
According to Marketing Manager Perry Cartera, it was the first time that a large number of Bicolano pastors got together for a seminar. “I was told that attendees in recent seminars usually numbered to just about 150 to 200. We praise God for the huge turnout of pastors, teachers and church workers to learn about the Bible,” she said.
She added that the seminar was “very significant” to the Bicolano pastors. “It was a time for rejoicing, reconciliation, and restoration for many of them,” Cartera said.
Speakers of the seminars included Translation Consultant Dr. Anicia Del Corro presented a lecture entitled, “How the Bible Came to Us;” Cartera, who taught Sunday school teachers on how to effectively train youngsters with her lecture entitled, “Why Focus on the Children,” and PBS Trustee Dr. Nati Pagadut, who gave a message on Dei Verbum and Evangeli Gaudium.
Aside from learning from the lectures, the participants also experience becoming modern-day scribes as they participated in the Handwritten Unity Bible writing event right after the seminars. They were also able to enjoy a sample of Bible-related artifacts in the Roving Bible Museum that was also set up for the occasion.
