NCCP holds GenCon, PBS participates
The National Council of Churches in the Philippines (NCCP) held its 24th General Convention on November 23-27, 2015 at the UMC Mission Camp in Tagaytay City with the theme “Launching out into the Deep for Peace and Justice”.
PBS President Chief Justice Reynato S. Puno (retired), and UMC chairman of administrative council, shared his liturgical message during the event. “Our task as fishers of men needs more dynamism. Christians can’t confine themselves in the cathedrals and churches. We need to go out into the streets,” Chief Justice Puno said.
PBS General Secretary Nora G. Lucero also gave her rendition of the song “My Tribute” (To God be Glory) during the Oikoumene night of the convention. Other PBS participations were putting up the Roving Bible Museum (RBM), where delegates can view, and a Bible Display where they can avail of Scripture materials.
The said convention of NCCP leaders, members, and partners elected a new set of officers for the next four years. Serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the NCCP, Rev. Rex R.B Reyes Jr. was re-elected for a third term as the General Secretary. NCCP is composed of ten member churches; namely, Apostolic Catholic Church, Convention of Philippine Baptist Churches, Episcopal Church in the Philippines, Iglesia Evangelica Metodista En Las Islas Filipinas, Iglesia Filipina Independiente, Iglesia Unida Ekyumenikal, Lutheran Church in the Philippines, The Salvation Army, The United Methodist Church, United Church of Christ in the Philippines, and nine church-related organizations as associate members.
