Leaders gather to plan for NBW 2012

Last July 29, 2011, leaders from various churches and Christian organizations came together to plan for the 2012 National Bible Week. This annual celebration, which aims to promote the Bible to Filipinos as an everyday manual to life and instrument for transformation, has been endorsed by three past presidents – Ferdinand Marcos (Presidential Proclamation no. 2242), Corazon Aquino (PP No. 44), and Fidel Ramos (PP No. 1067). The meeting’s discussion focused primarily on the theme for next year’s celebration. The themes suggested by the attendees were mostly geared towards getting the youth involved. National transformation was also a common focus as we want to partner with the current administration’s thrust.Though an agreement has yet to be reached regarding the theme, it was clear that that the themes suggested were still firmly rooted on the objectives of the May They Be One Biblecampaign. The leaders also shed light on the need for the current President to release a new proclamation that will help encourage more local leaders to release their own ordinances in their respective regions in order to further strengthen the celebration of NBW throughout the nation. As for the venue for next year’s celebration, Carol Rivera, a representative from the mayor’s office in Alfonso, Cavite, suggested the possibility of their province hosting the nationwide i-Proclaim! event which will culminate the NBW celebration. Along with the brainstorming for the theme and venue for the celebration, the church leaders have also pledged to strengthen the May They Be One Bible campaign through the Handwritten Unity Bible fundraising project by promoting it in their respective churches.
