Linked by Love: June 2018 Bible Museum Tour
It was a rainy and cold Friday morning last June 8, 2018 when 207 young people along with their facilitators made their way to the Philippine Bible Society (PBS) for a Bible Museum tour.
These teenagers and young adults are under the DepEd’s Alternative Learning System (ALS) program that continues to push for free Secondary Education.
Teacher Mary Ann, the group’s main area coordinator, revealed how many of her students had a hard time sleeping because they were very excited.
One such student is a bubbly young lady named Rica. She shared, “I felt so blessed to learn more about God’s Word.” Seeing God’s faithfulness after going through the museum must have been very important to her, especially since she confessed that she came from a broken home.
Another cheerful member of the group named Ronnuel said, “I really enjoyed my Bible Museum experience.” And he’s not alone.
Kent, Milfred, and Kenken were amazed by the new knowledge they acquired regarding the Bible. They all agreed that they gained a new understanding of God and His faithfulness.
Indeed, God is faithful. A very shy young man named Carlos would agree. He confessed, “I felt deeply comforted by the tour. I felt emotionally lighter.”
This 2018 batch of out of school youth were more well-behaved compared to previous batches, noted teacher Mary Ann. But their struggles were very much similar to the ones that came before. These students come from broken homes. Some were former gang members. Early pregnancies were rampant among the group as well. That is why it was common to see little children running around the third floor waiting area.
But what started out as a gloomy and rainy morning ended up being a shining day filled with hope and possibility. This set of youth that entered PBS for their first Bible Museum tour walked out more inspired, empowered, and comforted by the love of our God.
They may have had different reactions at the end and different expectations at the start. But one thing is certain. God’s Word speaks to us in very unique and personal ways.
