Finding Help in God’s Word
(Reference material: ESV Youth Bible)

The Word of God is filled with wisdom, comfort, and encouragement. Whatever you may be feeling at this moment, we urge you to read your Bible. Spend time engaging with it by memorizing passages, journaling your thoughts, and meditating on the words that strike you. We’ve compiled a couple of verses below to help you get started.

Anxious?

Give yourself to the Lord;
trust in him, and he will help you;

Psalm 37:5

Bereaved?

For we know that when this tent we live in—our body here on earth—is torn down, God will have a house in heaven for us to live in, a home he himself has made, which will last forever.

2 Corinthians 5:1

Doubting?

And so I am sure that God, who began this good work in you, will carry it on until it is finished on the Day of Christ Jesus.

Philippians 1:6

Bitter?

 When he was insulted, he did not answer back with an insult; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but placed his hopes in God, the righteous Judge.

1 Peter 2:23

Afraid?

The Lord is my light and my salvation;
    I will fear no one.
The Lord protects me from all danger;
    I will never be afraid.

Psalm 27:1

Discouraged?

We know that in all things God works for good with those who love him,[a] those whom he has called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:28

Depressed?

I have the strength to face all conditions by the power that Christ gives me.

Philippians 4:13

Lonely?

I am your God and will take care of you
    until you are old and your hair is gray.
I made you and will care for you;
    I will give you help and rescue you.

Isaiah 46:4

Jealous?

Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never leave you; I will never abandon you.”

Hebrews 13:5

A more comprehensive list of Bible verses for each emotion or situation is compiled in the “Finding Help: Where to Look When” section of the English Standard Version (ESV) Youth Bible.

“I praise and thank our Almighty God that, through PBS, I now own a Poimen version of MBB (Magandang Balita Biblia) in the national language of the Philippines – Tagalog.
Knowing Matthew 10:32-33, I read and study the Bible so that I will not be dismayed when the Lord Jesus Christ comes. Life is too short compared with the promise of eternal life in God’s Kingdom.”
