FCBH celebrates 20 years of ministry in the Philippines

Faith Comes By Hearing (FCBH) has come a long way. Starting from its humble beginnings during the 1980s as a cassette tape lending ministry in the United States, it is now an international ministry, having produced audio Bible formats for 1,102 languages all over the world. This year marks its 20th year of ministry in the Philippines, celebrating hundreds of lives reached with the Good News, in 8 major languages and 29 minor languages.

FCBH has served many people through Bible Listening Groups (BLGs). BLGs are orally conducted Bible Studies. They are designed for communities of people who have difficulty in reading and writing. To cater to the needs of these communities, FCBH makes use of Proclaimers, a portable device that plays dramatized recordings of the New Testament in a particular local language. The audio Bible ministry of FCBH reaches local Filipino communities by teaching and training local leaders how to lead BLGs using these Proclaimers.

Joey Rubilla is a pastor in Castillas, Sorsogon. He reports, “We have given Proclaimers to every municipality in Sorsogon and more people are still interested to have their units.”

Bro. Jun Buena, a lay minister from the Diocese of Cubao shares, “The proclaimers are being used in the marketplace. Recently, we started a group at Murphy Market in Cubao. People who previously did not know about the Bible are now able to hear God’s Word through BLGs.”

These and more testimonies of the audio Bible ministry comprised the last 20 years. And in celebration of this anniversary, FCBH, in partnership with the Philippine Bible Society (PBS), conducted a seminar-workshop in the PBS Ministry Building last October 16 to 18, 2017.

The FCBH-PBS team led by Pastor Raymond Francisco conducted the 3-day workshop carrying the theme “Faith Forward,” with the goal of equipping area coordinators from both Catholic and Protestant groups in different provinces.

“The Philippines is one of our stronger programs worldwide, because of the persistence and consistency of the program here, aside from the length of time we’ve worked. This workshop is an example of the team’s creativity and efficiency to expand the ministry,” says Tara Sigur, FCBH’s International Language Recording Coordinator.

“It is a blessing to be able to support our local churches in need of Bibles and Bible study programs. It is our hope that they not only grow in terms of membership but also have the heart to extend spiritual help to others, just like how they have received help.”

It has well-equipped leaders who facilitate trainings and workshops.

“I praise and thank our Almighty God that, through PBS, I now own a Poimen version of MBB (Magandang Balita Biblia) in the national language of the Philippines – Tagalog.
Knowing Matthew 10:32-33, I read and study the Bible so that I will not be dismayed when the Lord Jesus Christ comes. Life is too short compared with the promise of eternal life in God’s Kingdom.”

I think this is very helpful to every readers. The word of the Lord are the food of our soul which we always need every minute of our life. I dont often read the Bible but everytime i open it, God was always like in front of me and speaking as what is something i'm just needing to hear. He speaks to me and i can feel it. A million thanks to You my Lord.
