Dr. Lucero Speaks On “Together To Get There” during IVCF Annual Corporation Meeting
“Effective servant leaders have characters that reflect Christ.”
Dr. Nora Lucero, PBS General Secretary and an Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF) UE alumna, was quoted as saying during her message as keynote speaker at the Annual Corporation Meeting of the IVCF last August 29 at the Faith Baptist Church in West Avenue, Quezon City.
The theme, “Together To Get There,” was based on Hebrews 12:1-2a that speaks of Jesus as being the founder and perfecter of our faith. Dr. Lucero highlighted the importance of a leader’s character to be rooted in and shaped by God’s Word. She gave three (3) Cs: CLOUD of witnesses; CONTINUE on with the race; CHRIST is central, to encourage one another in working together as one body of Christ in bringing the gospel to many.
IVCF, a partner of PBS in the ministry, is an evangelical movement that nurtures students and graduates to be effective disciples in their community. They are committed to build up God’s church in the Philippines through discipleship of students and graduates in their respective spheres of influence. IVCF gathers all their members nationwide annually for a Corporation meeting to update members on the milestones, conduct the election and recognize leaders who thrive for the movement’s advancement. This annual gathering was a time of reunion and fellowship with other IVCF members.
The following is an excerpt from her message:
“In Conclusion, we are able to run with perseverance the race marked out for us because we have Jesus Christ, the founder and perfecter of our faith. In whatever situation we are in, we are called to focus on the only One whose name is holy and awesome (Psalm 111:9) and whose “works are faithful and just, whose precepts are trustworthy and established forever and ever”.
May we never forsake God’s steadfast love and faithfulness in our faith and service. (Prov. 3:3, ESV), never grow weary of doing good – to never give up (Gal 6:9, ESV), and to always wait upon the Lord’s renewal of strength that can mount us on wings like eagles, so that we run and not get weary. (Isaiah 40:31, ESV). We pray that God will continue to transform us to be effective servant leaders whose character reflects Christ. Together, we will move as one to pursue God’s purposes for us.
Let me quote Philippians 1:6, GNT, “And so I am sure that God, who began this good work in you, will carry it on until it is finished on the Day of Christ Jesus.” As we move “ToGeTher To Get There,” may we cling on to the wonderful promise of God’s faithfulness to us that He will be with us always, to the end of age (Matthew 28:20)
Yes, there is a great cloud of witnesses that are looking and cheering us up. WE WON’T QUIT BUT CONTINUE TO RUN THE RACE AS SERVANT LEADERS, TOGETHER TO GET THERE, LOOKING UNTO JESUS, THE FOUNDER AND PERFECTOR OF OUR FAITH.
We give God all the glory, honor and praise.”
