Chief Justice Reynato Puno Speaks at PBS’s 112th Anniversary

Former Chief Justice Reynato Puno will be the guest-of-honor and speaker during the 112th Anniversary of the Philippine Bible Society on November 19, 2011. Expounding on the theme Pagpapahayag ng Salita ng Diyos Tungo sa Pagbago” (Proclaiming God’s Word Towards National Transformation) Chief Justice Puno will prelude the National Bible Week 2012 Celebration which will carry the same theme.
A man of integrity and excellence, Reynato Puno had an illustrious career in public service which was capped by his appointment as the 22nd Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Unknown to many, CJ Puno is also a lay preacher at the United Methodist Church and is the incumbent Chairman of the Administrative Council of the Puno Memorial United Methodist Church. An active supporter of the Bible cause, he partnered with PBS in 2007 and spearheaded a Bible distribution program for members of the judiciary all over the country. He was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Philippine Bible Society in the Annual Membership Meeting last April 2011.
In a testimony he shared during a recent PBS Board Retreat, the former Chief Justice said that since his retirement, he has declined numerous offers to enter the academe to teach aspiring lawyers. He revealed that at this point in his life – a life that has always been guided and directed by the Bible – he has made a commitment to teach not at the halls of Law Schools but within the walls of the churches’ Sunday Schools, stressing that the only subject he will teach from now on is the Supreme Law – not made by man – but the Law of God.
