BRINGING THE SCRIPTURE INTO EVERY SCHOOL
The Bible tells us in Proverbs 22:6 to “Teach children how they should live, and they will remember it all their life.” This is a constant reminder that spurs PBS to devise ways and means to bring God’s Word to the young and help them engage with it. It is therefore with great enthusiasm that PBS met with Brother Armin Luistro FSC, Secretary of the Department of Education and his team on June 27, to explore ways to incorporate the Bible’s message and values into the curriculum of the national school system.
The meeting was an offshoot of the challenge Sec. Luistro issued when he gave the keynote speech at PBS’s 48th Annual Membership Meeting in April. The Secretary said: “The most powerful weapon that can change the country is one that can change hearts. The Bible can change the Philippines.” Like PBS, he believes that national transformation can happen through God’s Word and that it is important for our young people—the country’s future—to be grounded in sound teaching and moral values espoused by the Bible.
Upon Bro. Armin’s invitation, a contingent led by Chairman and President, Most Rev. Broderick S. Pabillo, D.D., the Auxiliary Bishop of Manila, trooped to the DepEd offices in Pasig to dialogue with the educators and explore ways this goal can be realized. Also with the group were board members Mr. Albert Tanlimco, President of AMTES Corporation, CBCP-ECBA Executive Secretary, Dr. Natividad Pagadut.
