At the Crossroads: Verses about Decision-making

At the Crossroads: Verses about Decision-making
(Reference material: I am Somebody)
In a world where so much information is given to us, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by the number of choices we have to make. But we thank the Lord for giving us these three basic truths about decision-making that are grounded on Scripture. By God’s grace, these truths will be able to guide us no matter how many crossroads we face in life.
“The decisions that we make can help determine the kind of people we are.”
-an excerpt from I am Somebody (PBS-published Selection material)
Some decisions are difficult to make, but Christ will guide my decisions
Be tolerant with one another and forgive one another whenever any of you has a complaint against someone else. You must forgive one another just as the Lord has forgiven you. And to all these qualities add love, which binds all things together in perfect unity. The peace that Christ gives is to guide you in the decisions you make; for it is to this peace that God has called you together in the one body. And be thankful.
Colossians 3:13-15 Good News Translation (GNT)
My decisions affect others
That evening they heard the Lord God walking in the garden, and they hid from him among the trees. But the Lord God called out to the man, “Where are you?” He answered, “I heard you in the garden; I was afraid and hid from you, because I was naked.”
“Who told you that you were naked?” God asked. “Did you eat the fruit that I told you not to eat?”
The man answered, “The woman you put here with me gave me the fruit, and I ate it.”
The Lord God asked the woman, “Why did you do this?”
She replied, “The snake tricked me into eating it.”
Genesis 3:8-13 Good News Translation (GNT)
And he said to the woman, “I will increase your trouble in pregnancy and your pain in giving birth. In spite of this, you will still have desire for your husband, yet you will be subject to him.”
And he said to the man, “You listened to your wife and ate the fruit which I told you not to eat. Because of what you have done, the ground will be under a curse. You will have to work hard all your life to make it produce enough food for you. It will produce weeds and thorns, and you will have to eat wild plants. You will have to work hard and sweat to make the soil produce anything, until you go back to the soil from which you were formed. You were made from soil, and you will become soil again.”
Genesis 3:16-19 Good News Translation (GNT)
Decisions determine my destiny
The Final Judgment
“When the Son of Man comes as King and all the angels with him, he will sit on his royal throne, and the people of all the nations will be gathered before him. Then he will divide them into two groups, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the righteous people at his right and the others at his left. Then the King will say to the people on his right, ‘Come, you that are blessed by my Father! Come and possess the kingdom which has been prepared for you ever since the creation of the world. I was hungry and you fed me, thirsty and you gave me a drink; I was a stranger and you received me in your homes, naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you took care of me, in prison and you visited me.’ The righteous will then answer him, ‘When, Lord, did we ever see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you a drink? When did we ever see you a stranger and welcome you in our homes, or naked and clothe you? When did we ever see you sick or in prison, and visit you?’ The King will reply, ‘I tell you, whenever you did this for one of the least important of these followers of mine, you did it for me!’
Matthew 25:31-40 Good News Translation (GNT)
Prayer:
Thank You, Lord, for always being there to guide me.
Almighty Father, may every decision that I make in life be pleasing to You and aligned with Your plans for me.
Amen
