Adopt a Church: Focus on Discipleship

Sept 26, 2018

We are grateful for the 124 individuals from 33 churches both in and outside of Metro Manila who joined us for the Adopt a Church Training Program last June 13, 2018. This Scripture Engagement effort of the Philippine Bible Society (PBS) focuses on the principle of “churches helping other churches.”

Mrs. Perry Cartera, PBS Associate General Secretary, facilitated the training, which covered the basics of discipleship, small group discussion, and practicum or application. She noted that discipleship needs to begin at the innermost church level. And it is true. How can we lead souls to Christ if the church itself has members who are struggling and are not discipled properly themselves? Definitely, we need to strengthen the foundation of the church before evangelization work can even begin.

“What struck me most is I realized that existing members need Bible study too,” admitted Pastor Ryan from Batasan Bible Church. He continued, “The biggest challenge now is how to motivate members.”

We ended the event with a Bible distribution. Praise God for He has blessed our donors with very generous hearts. From all of us at PBS, we are grateful for their partnership in making the Bible distribution possible.
