Eighteen individuals from the provinces of Leyte and Samar participated in the Samar-Leyte Bible Translation and Revision Workshop conducted by the Philippine Bible Society in Tacloban City last August 18 to 22, 2014.
Translation Manager Dr. Edgar B. Ebojo said that the workshop aimed to “train prospective translators for the revision of our existing Samarenyo New Testament and the translation of two new projects for Mark.” He added that the former is in the Tacloban dialect of Waray while the latter will be in the Northern and Eastern Samar dialects.
He also said that they would be forming one team of translators for each of the three projects. “As such, we had five participants from Eastern Samar, two from Northern Samar, and 11 from Western Samar and Northern Leyte to represent the Tacloban dialect,” Dr. Ebojo explained.
Dr. Ebojo was joined by Translation Consultants Dr. Daniel C. Arichea, Dr. Anicia H. del Corro, and Dr. Rhoneil M. Arevalo as consultants for the workshop while Translation Projects Assistant Jojee N. Martinez completed the PBS team.
The participants attended lectures in the morning and got to practice the translation principles that they learned in the afternoon. They, along with the consultants, critiqued the workshop output in the evening.
The translation projects are scheduled to begin in October.
